MONTICELLO, NY — The George L. Cooke fifth-grade poets enjoyed their recent unit of study, “Playing with Words.” They played with specific techniques, line breaks, stanza, figurative language (such as similes) rhyme and alliterations to make unique poems as tumbling snowflakes. The theme was winter, so all classes chose a winter-related image to use on the bulletin boards in the school’s hallways. The photos here display some of the results.
NARROWSBURG, NY — The Delaware Valley Opera (DVO) will present a program of highlights from Verdi’s ‘Rigoletto,’ at a special Season Opening Fundraiser at the DVAA, 37 Main St. The event will be held on Saturday, February 4, at 7 p.m., and will feature Francisco Perez-Abreu, Evelyn Thatcher, Alexander Caraballo, Jeremy Griffin and Caroline Tye, with pianist Violetta Zabbi. HAWLEY, PA — Entrants are sought for the Pocono Lake Region Chamber of Commerce’s 10th Annual Chili/Wing Cook Off, which will take place on Sunday, March 4 at Ehrhardt’s Waterfront Restaurant on Lake Wallenpaupack, Route 507, 2 miles east of Hawley.
Official judges are the Administrators from Wallenpaupack Area School District. First- place winner in both chili and wings will capture a trophy and $100 cash award.
