Kingston, NY -- With profound gratitude to the people of New York's 22nd Congressional District and the former 26th Congressional District who he's had the honor of serving, Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) today announced that he will not seek reelection and instead will retire from Congress at the end of his current term. The congressman made the announcement at the Senate House State Historic Site in Kingston, New York, which was where he announced his first campaign for Congress in 1992. Hinchey has spent the past 38 years of his life in public service, including 18 years in the New York State Assembly and 20 years in the U.S. House of Representatives. Read more
LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — The Catskill Art Society will present “Middle Ground,” a two-person exhibition featuring the work of local artists Kathe Blackbird Frantz and Matthew Zappala, from Saturday, January 21 to Sunday, February 26 at 48 Main St. Frantz, one of whose works is shown here, is a painter from Callicoon whose work for this exhibition was inspired by the Delaware River Valley. Zappala, a graphic artist from Saugerties, will present woodcuts created from winter landscapes and unique collages that have the look of a woodcut. HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Arts Alliance will present “The Road Home” as the second offering in its winter Sunday Night Cinema film series on Sunday, January 22 at 8:15 p.m. at Cinema 6 Theater in the Route 6 Mall.
Directed by the multiple-award-winning Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou, the film is based on a country girl’s reminiscence of her romance with her schoolteacher husband during the Cultural Revolution. “The Road Home” won the Silver Lion prize at the Venice Film Festival and the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.
