NY ban on disposing rechargeable batteries
ALBANY, NY — A provision in the New York State Rechargeable Battery Recycling Act prohibiting disposal of most rechargeable batteries as a solid waste in the state took effect on December 5, according to New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Read more
Honesdale man sentenced for shooting mail boxes
LAKEVILLE, PA — A Honesdale man has been sentenced to 12 to 48 months in jail for allegedly driving around the Cherry Ridge/South Canaan area with three other men in the early morning hours of July 21, and shooting at mail boxes, signs and trees with an AK47 assault rifle and a shotgun. Read more
Pennfuture: PA subsidies for fossil fuel cost $2.9 billion
PHILADELPHIA, PA — The PennFuture Energy Center for Enterprise and the Environment released a study on December 6, detailing current subsidies for fossil fuels in Pennsylvania, which, including tax exemptions, tax credits and grants, total $2.9 billion per year. Read more
Nativity scene in Eldred
A life-size nativity scene has been erected behind the Piazza in Eldred. It was created by the staff at the Corner Store. They hope to add to it over the years, and it is available to the public for viewing anytime. It was blessed by Father Tom from St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church in Yulan on December 3.
