Lighting up Milford

MILFORD, PA — The Milford Business Council and Milford Lions Club will host the annual tree lighting on the grounds of the Community House on Saturday, December 3. A celebration including refreshments, glow-sticks and community caroling will begin at 5 p.m. The lighting of the Christmas tree will occur at 6 p.m., when the trees lining the downtown streets and the star on the Knob will also be lit. Afterward, Santa Claus will arrive in town on top of Milford Fire Department Engine 33 with a team of reindeer.  Read more

‘Transformation and the Grinch’

BEACH LAKE, PA — The Upper Delaware Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will kick off its month-long exploration of transformation with a lively musical multi-generation service called “Transformation and the Grinch.” on Sunday, December 4 at 10:15 a.m. Using spoken word and small songs, accompanied by a lap harp, service leader Laurie Stuart will “read” How the Grinch Stole Christmas and create a service that celebrates the idea that Christmas, stripped of all of its trappings, has the ability to transform.  Read more

Holiday activities in Honesdale

HONESDALE, PA — A number of special activities will take place in Honesdale over the coming week, including the Highlights for Children open house at 803 Church St. on Saturday, December 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free event includes treats, entertainment, a children’s craft room, puppetry and more. Also on Saturday, you can get winter photos of your pet, your child or both at The Cat’s Pajamas, 107 8th St. from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with all proceeds benefiting Dessin Animal Shelter.  Read more

Caroling and tree lighting in Narrowsburg

NARROWSBURG, NY — Narrowsburg will kick off the season with carols and a tree and street lighting on the Main Street observation deck on Saturday, December 3 at 5:30 p.m. There will be favors for the kids and an appearance by Santa in a firetruck. This month, the SkyDog Supper Club will start the evening at the lighting event, then move on to the town hall from 6:30 to 9:00 for a potluck supper, where the future of the Narrowsburg School property will be the featured topic.

A German Christmas

HONESDALE, PA — Pastor Kenneth Buckwalter and the congregation of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7th and Church streets, will host a German Christmas service on Sunday, December 11 at 6 p.m.
The sanctuary will be filled with Christmas carols and German liturgy, candles and the Holy Spirit. Refreshments will be offered following the service, including German treats like Lebkuchen cookies.

Christmas handicrafts at the Hub

PORT JERVIS, NY — The Hub, the Public Computer Center @ The Port Jervis Free Library, has created a two-part program to be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6 and 13. Anna Seniw, owner of The Creative Corner, will demonstrate how to use the Internet to identify and download handicraft concepts for your holiday table and house decorations. During the second hands-on session, with the guidance of Seniw, participants will transform these concepts into handicrafts.  Read more

Sounds of winter

MONTICELLO, NY — The Sullivan County Community Chorus will present its 35th annual winter concert, “The Scenes, Scents, Sights and Sounds of Winter,” on Sunday, December 11 at 2 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 6317 Route 42. The chorus, under the direction of conductor Kevin Giroux, with chamber orchestra and accompanists Lucille Horton and Keira Weyant, will present a program featuring works by George Handel, Antonio Vivaldi, Charles Gounod, Gustav Holst, John Rutter and more.  Read more
