Dimock residents put up water billboard
DIMOCK, PA — Dimock residents who have been living with contaminated water wells have put up a billboard on Route 29 that reads “Three Years of Contaminated Water, Fix It!” In 2008 and 2009, a number of private water wells in Dimock went bad after Cabot Oil and Gas began extracting shale gas in the area. Bethel moves to protect, encourage farmland
The Town of Bethel, which cares enough about the agricultural community to list the farms in the town on its website, will consider a number of changes to its zoning code intended to protect and encourage more agricultural activity in the town. Read more
Hanson opens ‘The Art of Sports & Games’
HONESDALE, PA — The Hanson Gallery, 1037 Main St., will open its new exhibit, “The Art of Sports & Games,” on Saturday, August 6. There will be an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m.
Among the featured artists in the show will be Bea Creations, Anthony Chickillo, Mark Chuck, Evgeni Gordiets, Richard Lichtenstein, Jean-Luc Rieutort, John Rocklin, Marina Stavitskaya and Charles G. Woods. The exhibit will run through October 1.
Festival of Wood
MILFORD, PA — A variety of free music is planned throughout the weekend for the seventh annual Festival of Wood at Grey Towers National Historic Site on Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Read more

Jeff library holds book sale
JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — The Jeffersonville Branch of the Western Sullivan Public Library will hold its annual Firehouse Book Sale at the firehouse in Jeffersonville from Thursday, August 11 through Saturday August 13, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The last day of the sale is bag day. Call 845/482-4350.
Dance Y’rself Green
CALLICOON, NY — Dance Y’rself Green, a mid-summer night’s dance party, will be held on Saturday, August 6, starting at 6 p.m. at Callicoon Creek Park. The NACL stilters will be there, presenting stilt workshops for all ages. A DJ will provide entertainment from 7 to 11 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to NACL Theatre. The suggested donation is $10.
