EMERSON E. BOSSLEY

Emerson E. Bossley of Jeffersonville, NY entered into eternal rest on July 23, 2011. He was 89.

He was born May 31, 1922 in White Sulphur Springs, NY, the son of Edward and Elizabeth Wylam Bossley.

Emerson served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a TSGT during World War II, as an aircraft mechanic and B-17 crew member. He was co-owner of the Jeffersonville Garage until his retirement. Emerson was a devoted Christian and served several local churches as a lay speaker.  Read more

ALOYSIUS BISHOP CUYJET

Aloysius Bishop Cuyjet, formerly of Lake Huntington, NY, passed away in Tempe, AZ on May 21.

He was born in Philadelphia to Aloysius Felix and Helen Bishop Cuyjet on January 31, 1914.  Read more

ADALINE ‘SIS’ DEVEREAUX

Adaline “Sis” Devereaux of Shohola, PA died at home on Wednesday, July 20, 2011. She was 95.

She was a retired switchboard operator for Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis, NY.

The daughter of Otto and Adaline (Wakely) Fuhse, she was born on March 8, 1916 in Bronx, NY. She was the widow of Austin Devereaux, who predeceased her in 1999.

Survivors include daughters Katherine Devereaux and husband Arlen Trapp and Lois Ann Devereaux, both of Shohola; sister-in-law Joan Fuhse of Lords Valley, PA; half-sister Hedwig Cuddeback of Yukon Territory, Canada; and nieces and nephews.  Read more

ANDREW LEE FISHER

Andrew Lee Fisher of Middletown, NY, passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 18 in Port Jervis, NY. He was 27.

Andrew was born in Middletown on November 14, 1983, the son of Louise Heidenreich Mineau, and James J. Fisher.

He was a laborer for a local paving company.  Read more

DAVID E. GOCHENOUR

David E. Gochenour, a lifelong resident of Sparrowbush, NY and Mohican Lake in Sullivan County, NY, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2011. He was 62.

He was born June 6, 1949 in Port Jervis, NY to Walter and Inez Clark Gochenour.  Read more

EDWARD N. MILLER

Edward N. Miller of Moscow, PA died Monday, July 25, 2011 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA. He was 71.

He is preceded in death by his wife, the former Geri Melber, in 1998.

Born March 3, 1940 in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Gerald and Mildred Freeman Miller.  Read more

Joseph K. Strawbridge Jr., formerly of Jeffersonville, NY, passed away Monday, June 13, 2011 at his home in Endwell, NY. He was 72.

Born on June 4, 1939 to Joseph K. Strawbridge Sr. and Henrietta Schmidt Strawbridge, Joe grew up in Jeffersonville.  Read more

Daylily days

Daylily days

Once you start to notice them, daylilies are everywhere. They grow thick on roadside banks and in fields. See a few here or there around a mailbox, lining a front porch or around an old gravestone. Their lush, tawny-orange flowers bloom and wither in one day.

So we have arrived at this moment. The sign at the Long Eddy Firehouse on Route 97 says: “Enjoy the summer—it’s short.” It reminds me that I should try to make the most of these daylily days of summer.  Read more

Wurtsboro Troopers arrest Fallsburg man for Unlawful possession of Marijuana

State Police from the Wurtsboro barracks arrested a man following a traffic stop in the Town of Fallsburg on July 24. Chris Portugay-Delaney, a 17 yr old Fallsburg resident, following a traffic stop was found to be in possession of a small quantity of marijuana. Mr Portugay- Delaney was issued an appearance ticket for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Fallsburg Court on 7/27/11 at 7:00pm.
