Antiques appraisal

CALLICOON, NY — The members of the Hold Cross Parish Altar and Rosary Society will hold their first antiques appraisal in St. Joseph’s Hall at Holy Cross Church on Route 97 on Saturday, July 9 from 12 noon to 3 p.m. Doors open at 11 a.m.

Richart Axtell of Deposit, who brings over 40 years of experience in antiques, will be doing the appraisals. The admission fee of $10 will cover your first appraisal, with a limit of two additional ones at $3 each.

HASBROUCK, NY — The extraordinary work of local photographer Louis Jawitz will be on display starting July 10th at the Old Stone House in an exhibit titled “The Secular & the Other-Worldly,” opening on Sunday, July 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. The exhibit will last through the end of July.  Read more

Founder’s Day Street Fair

WURTSBORO, NY — The Wurtsboro Board of Trade will hold the Founder’s Day Street Fair on Saturday, July 9 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Veteran’s Park will host live entertainment featuring The Bill Fleck Trio, Midnight Slim and the Strangers, Side F/X, Robert Kopec Trio, The Carl Richards Band and the Third Degree. There will be local vendors selling arts and crafts, rides and events for the children on Fourth Street and a sidewalk sale on Sullivan Street. Danny’s Restaurant will have food and live music and O’Toole’s Harley Davidson is bringing in a Custom Harley for all to view.  Read more

From Tusten to Vienna and back again

Sitting on the papier-mâché rock in the Tusten Theatre in December of 1990, all I could think was, “Did I have to go?” Uh-oh, I was pretty sure I did. So, I got off my rock, set aside my crutch and walked down the fire escape to use the bathroom one last time. Then I resumed my place on my rock with my flute as the music started for my first opera role, the crippled Amahl in “Amahl and the Night Visitors” by Gian Carlo Menotti for the Delaware Valley Opera (DVO).
