A night with the stars

MILANVILLE, PA — Norm Sullivan and Bill Yeaman will lead a star program at the Butterly Barn at 840 River Road, presented by the Delaware Highlands Conservancy, on Friday, May 6 at 8:30 p.m.

Sullivan will provide a telescope, and Yeaman will search for constellations and tell their mythical stories. Bring binoculars if you have them, and dress for an evening outdoors. There will be light refreshments in the barn.

Wayne County Art Exhibit

HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Art Exhibit will be on view at the Wayne County Court House from Monday, May 9 through Friday, May 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The exhibit is sponsored by the Wayne County Area Agency on Aging (AAA).
Carleen Faatz, Director of Community Services of Wayne County AAA, said, “Our focus is to encourage and foster creative interactive programs in our community and provide an opportunity for professional and amateur artists of all ages to participate in a conveniently located cultural exchange.” Call 570/253-4262.

‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’

HONESDALE, PA — “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” a 2004 production featuring comedian Jim Carrey, will be the May 8 entry in the Wayne County Arts Alliance’s Sunday Night Cinema film series. Written by Charlie Kaufman and directed by Michel Gondry, the movie is a romantic fantasy in which Joel Barish, an introverted office worker (Carrey), and his flighty ex-girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet), have their memories washed of one another after a nasty breakup.  Read more

SkyDog goes Mexican for Cinco de Mayo

Go fly a kite

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — The 21st annual kite festival will be held at Sullivan County Community College from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 7. The first 200 children to arrive will receive a free kite.
The free event is a combination of high-flying recreation and local arts. While participants are invited to fly their own kites, crowds also gather to watch expert kite flying demonstrations. There will be children’s rides and games, craft vendors, fresh food, and music by the Top 40 cover band, Six Pack Joe.

Madcap comedy in Lakeville

LAKEVILLE, PA — The Lakeside Players’ new comedy, “Double Occupancy,” a madcap comedy about two sexy senior citizens, will run on Saturday and Sunday, May 7 and 8, at Lake-ville Community Hall, Route 590. The Saturday per-formance is at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinee is at 3 p.m.  Read more

NARROWSBURG, NY — The Upper Delaware Writers Collective is hosting a sale with baked goods, flower and vegetable plants and seedlings, books and tee shirts on Saturday, May 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The sale, which will take place in The Mews courtyard in Narrowsburg next to Narrowsburg Roasters, will offer plenty of specialty and homemade items sure to please your special person on Mother’s Day.  Read more

Springtime walks at Grey Towers

MILFORD, PA — Two special walks that highlight Grey Towers’ landscape and the Pinchot family influence in Milford will be offered in May by the U.S. Forest Service at Grey Towers.
On Saturday, May 7, you can visit the historic gardens at Grey Towers National Historic Site and see them as they awaken from their winter slumber. The landscape tour, which begins at 11 a.m. at the Visitor Pavilion in the Grey Towers parking lot, features the historic Sweet Cherry Tree, seen below, and hundreds of bulbs in bloom.  Read more

JOYCE BIDWELL STIFANO

Joyce Bidwell Stifano, of Yankee Lake, NY, passed peacefully away Sunday, May 1, at her home in the company of her family. She was 62.

Joyce Ann Bidwell was born October 12, 1948, to Clarence and Leona Andrews Bidwell, of Middletown, NY. She was raised in Middletown and lived for a short time in Maine.  Read more
