My wife and I are landowners in Wayne County, PA. Eighteen months ago, as members of a local landowners’ alliance, we signed a lease for natural gas exploration on our property. MARIE A. MILLER

Marie A. Miller of Rowland, PA, a longtime resident of the area, passed away on Sunday, March 13 at home. She was 83.

The daughter of the late Edward and Stella Yackevicz Bortcavage, she was born September 13, 1927 in Eynon, PA.

She was married for 54 years to Joseph A. Miller, who survives.

A family statement reads: “Marie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a big part of the family and she will be truly missed.”  Read more

MABEL W. HUEBNER

Mabel W. Huebner of Narrowsburg, NY, a longtime resident of the area, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Honesdale, PA. She was 99.

The daughter of the late Harry and Mabel Whitaker Covart, she was born in Glen Spey, NY on November 13, 1911.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Narrowsburg. She was a member of Tusten Senior Citizens Club for over 20 years, and volunteered for the office of aging meals-on-wheels program. She was the former secretary of the Tusten Republican Club.  Read more

ELIZABETH J. HAWKER

Elizabeth J. “Betty” Hawker of Narrowsburg, NY, a longtime resident of the area, died Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA. She was 86.

The daughter of the late Clarence and Johanna Van Beeck Winchell, she was born November 22, 1924 in Jersey City, NJ.

Betty was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Narrowsburg. She served as Tusten Town Clerk from 1991 to 1999. She was a charter member of Tusten Volunteer Ambulance Corps, a member of Tusten Historical Society and a volunteer for the Narrowsburg Ecumenical Food Pantry.  Read more

WILLIAM R. ALBER

William Robert Alber passed away after a brief illness on Monday, March 21, 2011. He was 79.

He was born November 27, 1931.

He was a resident of Callicoon, NY for over 30 years. William proudly served his country as an army staff sergeant in the Korean War from January 29, 1952 thru January 12, 1954. William owned and operated a small business in Glendale, NY for 34 years. He enjoyed flying small aircrafts for many years at Sullivan County Airport. William will be dearly missed by many family members as well as his dear friends.  Read more
