We need those fields

On March 22, the voters in the Sullivan West School District have an extraordinary opportunity to finally give the students in our district what they so patiently have been waiting for: athletic fields at our high school. Without these, our school is second rate and we will have to continue to bus our kids daily to other locations for after-school sports practice.  Read more

Letter to Carol Collier of the DRBC

The Delaware River Basin Commission [DRBC] already has had the inestimable benefit of my previous verbal and written comments on its drafting of regulations for the gas drilling industry. Pitfalls still may abound, but we are assured that we are in good hands at the DRBC.

Of course, we have other champions, hard at work insuring responsive government. Former Governor Ridge of Pennsylvania no doubt works tirelessly for the people of Pennsylvania, having had his economic concerns allayed by a near-million-dollar annual champion’s fee from the gas industry.  Read more

Libraries: the great equalizers

One of the most disturbing things about hard economic times like those we now face is that the institutions that sometimes seem to be the first on the chopping block are those that serve the most basic of our common needs and aspirations. The privatization of Sullivan County’s Certified Home Health Agency, discussed in last week’s newspaper, which stands to remove a last recourse for home health care for the many in the county not fortunate enough to be insured, is one example.  Read more
